Today we launch Our Co-op is Our Community.
It's true. Cooperatives are very close to our hearts. Maybe you can guess why.
Here in tiny Plainfield, Vermont (population 1,364 and the place we call Home) our 37-year old food cooperative is a hub for social life, a community gathering place, and a glowing symbol of food security.
The Plainfield Coop and Community Center has shaped the economic, political, and agricultural landscape of our little town by providing jobs, hosting community events, and providing a marketplace for local farmers. At just barely 1,000 square feet of retail space it's not a lot but it's what we've got and what has provided healthy food to this community for more than one generation of progressive Vermonters.
Today we pay homage to a marvelous institution and community with the introduction of Our Co-op is Our Community: a series of 10 posters featuring Plainfield community members whose lives have been touched by the Co-op.
The poster series will be unveiled in an opening reception on Saturday, November 5th of the Plainfield Coop Community Center and will be used as ongoing marketing materials for the Co-op and Community Center.
Shot by renowned Vermont photographer Ethan Hubbard (author of Salt Pork and Apple Pie) and produced by Eggplant Active Media Workers' Collective.
11x17 prints are available for $20 (shipping included) through the Plainfield Coop.
